Surgical Services Program

To be eligible for admission to the Surgical Services program, please:

  • Complete an online 91¾«Ń” Admissions Application, select Surgical Services-AS major/program. Individuals with a current 91¾«Ń” Admissions Application—submitted within the past year or who are currently enrolled as academic students—are eligible to complete a Limited Access Program Form.
  • *Submit an official high school transcript, GED, or equivalent verifying proof of high school graduation to the Office of the Registrar.
  • *Submit official college transcripts verifying completion of the required prerequisite courses and all other college work attempted. A 2.80 GPA or higher must have been maintained in the 10 pre-requisite courses to be eligible for acceptance. Full acceptance will be awarded for the first spring term enrollment.
    • Pre-requisite courses:
      • BSC 1085C – Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credit hours)
      • BSC 1086C – Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credit hours)
      • ENC 1101 – Freshman English I (3 credit hours)
      • HSC 1532 – Medical Terminology (3 credit hours)
      • PSY 2012 – Introduction to Psychology (3 credit hours)
      • SLS 1106 – First-Year Experience Seminar (1 credit hour)
      • STS 1302 – Introduction to Surgical Technology (2 credit hours)
      • AMH 1010 – Introductory Survey to 1877 (GE) OR
      • AMH 1020 – Introductory Survey Since 1877 (GE) OR
      • POS 1041 – American Government (GE) (3 credit hours)
      • **^ Humanities Core (GE) (3 credit hours)
      • **^ Mathematics Core (GE) (3 credit hours)
    • Note: You must earn a grade of C or higher in each of the courses listed above.
    • *If you are currently an 91¾«Ń” student and have submitted these transcripts previously, resubmission is not required unless additional classes have been taken.
  • Submit three reference letters to the Division of Health Sciences by mail or in-person in a sealed envelope by the application deadline. References must be from the following sources:
    • Current or most recent employer or instructor
    • Person of your choice other than a relative

NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring your records are complete in the Admissions, Registration, and Records Office. No application will be considered unless it is complete.


Once accepted into the program, you will receive instructions to complete the following:

  • Physical health exam and a record of immunizations from a licensed physician or nurse practitioner (forms will be provided after acceptance into the program)
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement fingerprinting (will be scheduled prior to enrollment)
  • CPR Certification
  • 10-panel drug screen
  • You will be required to submit program documentation through a third-party compliance company throughout the program.

NOTE: Failure to complete these requirements will result in loss of enrollment into the program.


Selection Criteria and Process

  • Selection of students will be based upon those with the highest GPA in the 10 pre-requisite courses
  • A 2.80 GPA or higher must have been maintained in the pre-requisite courses
  • In the event there are two or more applicants with identical GPAs, the student with the earliest application submission date will be selected

Note: Completion of all or part of the general education courses required in the degree does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
